This part is intended as barbed wire. It's cleverly designed to allow you to create long lines by attaching the end of one piece to the next.
However, I'm a fantasy/pre-industrial history minifigure enthusiast. So I'm using some of these parts not as barbed wire but as whips. You simply attach the piece to a light sabre handle. Great for orcs, demons and any number of cruel overlords!
