LEGO Gun of the Week - CZ 75
Posted by Merrie on 11th Apr 2017
Last week, we featured one of America's favorite guns, the Glock. This week, we're going to the Czech Republic to talk about a gun near and dear to their hearts, the CZ 75. This semi-automatic pistol was technically created in Czechoslovakia, the pre-"Velvet Divorce" country, living behind the Iron Curtain. It is considered a Wonder Nine gun; a semi-automatic pistol that uses the NATO standard cartridge, 9X19mm Parabellum. That cartridge was created in the early days of the 20th century by George Luger; yes, that Luger. This detail is actually important to the history of the CZ 75, because a gun of this type was forbidden in all Warsaw Pact States, and was also not allowed to be sold outside the Iron Curtain. This, combined with an inability to patent its design, led to similar guns being produced in the West. Luck for this gun, however, did turn around. Thanks to their love of sport shooting, the CZ 75 became wildly popular roughly a decade after its inception, and remains, to this day, one of the most popular guns in the Czech Republic. Instagrammer rangerthecreator built a slightly snazzier version which includes a slide, trigger, hammer, and removable magazine, and some smart orange detail. Nice job!
