LEGO Gun of the Week - PPD 40

Posted by Merrie on 2nd May 2017

The PPD 40; the short-lived, submachine gun of the mid-century Red Army. Designed by Vasily Degtyarov in 1934, PPD was an acronym for Pistolet-Pulemyot Degtyrarova. Taking a 7.62x25mm Tokarev, this gun had an open bolt, a conventional wooden stock, and utilized a large detachable ammunition drum. Capable of selective fire, the PPD 40 was used predominantly by border guards in the Soviet Union. Manufacturing was briefly halted in 1939 thanks to the People’s Commissariat of Defense Industry decommissioning the gun. That directive, however, was revised after Joseph Stalin, apparently quite a good friend Degtyarov, intervened. Instagram user bricksreplica’s awesome custom build may be the closest you get to this gun; due to its limited run, getting your hands on one requires a little luck and a lot of money. (I did a little searching and found one recently auctioned for $15,000!) Fortunately, bricksreplica did a heck of a job recreating this submachine gun.Great job!
