The Brick Connection - "Violence" Wrap-up and Wrapped-up Babies

The Brick Connection – A novice Lego fan explores the great brick world of LEGO
Happy June my fellow LEGO fans!
So last week was pretty awesome. I got a great response from everyone about my LEGO and “Violence” blog. Granted, only my buddy Gregory commented on the actual blog, but the posting on Facebook received lots of good feedback.
There were 71 likes, a few shares, and several comments on the post. And even though there weren’t a ton of people who contributed to the conversation, the link to the blog was clicked 234 times. As a blogger, I will definitely take that! There were another 31 link clicks on Twitter. And of all the people who actually responded to the topic of the blog post, everyone seemed to be in agreement. LEGO is not too violent.
Statistics can come in handy in all sorts of ways to better
understand everything from science to politics, but statistics, even when true
can spread falsehoods. And that is exactly what happened in this case. Yes,
LEGO does make more “weapons” than it has in the past, but that doesn’t make it
more violent. That doesn’t mean it promotes violence.
There may be more college graduates living at home than ever
before, but that doesn’t mean all millennials are lazy. The lack of decent
paying jobs available right out of school in addition to the high amount of student
loan debt each graduate leaves school with are the contributing factors to
that. These kids don’t want to live at home, they need to. ………..Not that I know
anything about that.
This is not to say that I don’t think society is oversaturated
with violence. Society is oversaturated with images and ideas of violence, both
in real-life and in fiction. But LEGO is not the problem. And LEGO is not
contributing to the problem.
I had a new thought about this topic after posting the blog,
so I left this comment on the Facebook post:
I was wondering how many of LEGO's "weapons" are actually guns. And not Star Wars blasters or other science fiction guns, but ones based on real-life guns. It doesn't seem like LEGO makes too many of those, which is why there is such a big market for them for 3rd party accessory companies. And in that case, I think that means LEGO has made a good conscious effort to not cross any lines with their products since they are specifically made for children.
And here were the great responses I got:
LEGO seems to be staying away from making guns just to make guns and that's good. (Because that’s where awesome BrickWarriors custom LEGO guns come in
handy.) But really, kids don’t need any more guns associated with their toys.
As long as LEGO continues to toe that line respectfully, I don’t think they’ll
hear any valid complaints.
I believe talk of this silly study will die down very soon and LEGO will go about their business as normal, continually being awesome.
In other, much happier LEGO news. It’s a LEGO baby!
It has been teased for a few months now, but the LEGO baby
is finally here. LEGO posted this cute ultra sound picture on their Facebook page a few days ago to announce the release of the LEGO City: Fun in the Park set.
I talked about this a few months ago, when discussing the
first ever handicapped minifigure (that is not just an elderly person).
So we get two great new LEGO minifigures in one set. They also say that the baby's dad is a stay-at-home dad, so I guess there’s that too.
The baby is actually pretty adorable. I mean look at those tiny
hands and those cute little legs. (*Please read in a cutesy baby voice*)
But that won’t be the only LEGO baby for long. Which is
good, because otherwise I’d worry about the survival of the minifigure race.
We just got a sneak peak of Minifigure Series 16, which will be out this fall. This series will include a babysitter minifigure that comes with another baby minifigure. Here's the list of minifigures courtesy of Big Shiny Robot
Even better are the penguin suit guy and the banana suit
guy. Heck yes! LEGO, you are killing it with these minifigures. And you even get
an actual penguin with the wildlife photographer guy. (I should clarify. It’s not
an actual “actual penguin”. Just a minifigure-sized penguin.)
Back to the baby though. Please remember that although
BrickWarriors doesn't make a minifigure baby body, (because we don’t make minifigures),
we did come out with the wrapped baby piece a while ago.
Until this new baby minifigure it was the best way to create a LEGO baby. And it still is a great way to make a baby, if you ever want to properly swaddle your newborn minifigure baby.
So that’s all for this week. What a perfect combination of
topics: Violence and babies.
I might win a Pulitzer for this jawn.
….and now I’ve lost the Pulitzer for using the word “jawn.”
That’s fair.
Until next time….did you hear about the kid in China who destroyed a $15,000 giant LEGO sculpture. After this
and that poor gorilla having to be killed, I think it’s official...KIDS ARE THE WORST!
*Compliments, general feedback, and constructive criticism are welcome. Any haters that are gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate can go step on some Lego with their bare feet.*
