I admit, just glancing at the cutlass on the site didn't attract my attention at first, but owning several Lego ships, I'm always willing to try out new pirate weapons. This thing is much more impressive in person! As Tim said in his review, it's more solid than Lego's, a heftier blade, and the guard is wide to cover the 'fingers' of the entire hand. This is a most swashbuckley sword, indeed!
Lego certainly does cutlasses, in a couple of varieties, but I like the business like lines of the Brick Warriors model. It has finer detail and looks like a much more workmanlike tool than the stock Lego cutlass.
